There is no shortage of fun things to do in New Orleans, and this past weekend was no different. We ate great food, had good drinks and danced ourselves silly. Every Monday you can relive the best moments from our weekend adventures in NOLA that will perhaps provide some inspiration for your next visit. Here’s what we did this past weekend. Share pictures of your New Orleans adventures from the weekend on our Facebook page!
What we saw: A second line in New Orleans is traditional at both weddings and funerals (and many other occasions). While funerals are typically thought of as a sad occasion, in New Orleans we see it as an opportunity to celebrate the life and love the recently departed, and that’s what we did this past Friday for “Uncle” Lionel Batiste. Batiste was the leader of the Treme Brass Band and a New Orleans icon. He’ll be dearly missed.
What we drank: Mimi’s in the Marginy is one of our favorite spots for good drinks and tapas (and late night dancing, if you’re into that). This weekend we enjoyed a simple and classic cocktail with our small plates, the Poinsettia. It’s made with sparkling wine and a touch of cranberry juice. Mmm mmm.
What we ate: Not many people think of New Orleans as a “sandwich city” – unless of course you’re talking about po-boys – but we have got some of the tastiest sammies anywhere! One of our favorites is the Gruyere Sandwich at St. James Cheese Company. It’s like a grownup grilled cheese made with caramelized onions and gruyere served on multigrain bread. It’s simple, classic and 100% delicious.
