DesignLoveFest Takes New Orleans: My Trip, Recapped

Bri Emery of DesignLoveFest shares her favorite moments from a recent trip to New Orleans.

On my DesignLoveFest blog post outlining my recent trip to New Orleans, one of my readers said something that caught my eye:

Hey, that’s me! Enjoying one of NOLA’s many beautiful patios (this one is at Sylvain).

“Looks like my city spirit animal.”

It was my first time in New Orleans, but I think it’s safe to say it’s my “city spirit animal,” too. It’s funky, colorful, and alive with music and food and culture. As an art director, I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to aesthetics, and wow: New Orleans is brimming with visual, soulful beauty. I also was in love with how deeply sensory experiences connected to the city’s imagery.

One of my top moments during the trip was a meal I had a Bacchanal: wine, a cheese plate, live music, and twinkling lights in a charming outdoor setting is a memory I won’t soon forget. Bacchanal is in the Bywater, which was my one of my favorite neighborhoods to explore. Another memorable moment was walking from Sylvain to Napoleon House in the French Quarter. The historic buildings, gas lamps, and streets made me feel transported to a different time period.

New Orleans is funky, colorful, and alive with music and food and culture.

Prior to my visit, I pretty much equated New Orleans with Mardi Gras, but it’s so much more than that if you take the time to explore. It’s like nowhere I’ve been in the United States… and I hope to make more New Orleans memories soon.

love all the pretty tiles on the ground here. #nola #pimmscup
