Weekend Picks: Landing Festival, Little Flea NOLA, and More

Two inaugural festivals are the perfect way to kick off the fall equinox.

It’s officially fall (!) so no surprise the first weekend of the equinox is packed with events right in line with the season’s festival-focused mindset. A horror film fest happens all weekend and the inaugural Landing Festival, also all weekend, pairs music from artists like Cake and Grace Potter with a beautiful lakefront location. One-day events on Saturday will make it tough to choose: attend Little Flea NOLA in the Lower Garden District, hop the ferry to Algiers for the Algiers Fall Festival, or help kick off Oktoberfest at NOLA on Tap in City Park.

All Weekend

1. NOLA Horror Film Fest — Rare Form on Esplanade Avenue hosts the fifth annual NOLA Horror Film Fest happening Thursday through Sunday. Feature films, short films, and screenplays are included in the festival lineup; tickets (prices vary) online.

2. The Landing Festival Funk and rock come together at the South Shore Harbor. The inaugural festival (a joint effort between Galactic and Tipitina’s) presents local artists like the Soul Rebels and Glen David alongside national acts like Cake and Grace Potter. A two-day pass is $100 with other ticket package options available online.

Saturday

3. Little Flea NOLA Southern Animal Foundation, The Finery, and Electric Eggroll food truck present a special Little Flea NOLA market from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. in Sophie B. Free…although specialty cocktails available for sale benefit Southern Animal Foundation.

4. Algiers Fall Festival Cross the river to Algiers Point, and enjoy another inaugural festival, Algiers Fall Festival, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Federal City. Free.
