As one of the liveliest cities in the nation, New Orleans finds a reason to celebrate every day of the week. And while the weekends are often filled with festivals and parties, some of the best local experiences happen on weekdays. From Monday night music to Taco Tuesdays and Thursday Twilight concerts, each day in NOLA has its own personality — and there’s never a shortage of fun.
We’ve put together a few of suggestions to help you navigate weekdays in NOLA like a pro:
Starting the week off on a high note is easy with food, music, and more happening across the city.
Red Beans and Rice — Historically in New Orleans, Mondays are the days to eat this delicious dish. Grab dinner at Napoleon House in the French Quarter, or head over to Capdeville in the Central Business District for their fried take on the classic (think arancini, NOLA-style).
Monday Music — Find Charmaine Neville performing every week at Snug Habor or King James and the Special Men at Sidney’s Saloon for some soulful rhythm and blues. Another great option? Alexis and The Samurai at d.b.a. See more…
Mardi Gras Day is not the only bustling Tuesday in NOLA. In fact, this is possibly the most popular day for locals to come out and play.
Yoga at the Cabildo — Start your day with yoga, meditation, and breathing in one of NOLA’s most beautiful and historic buildings.
Crescent City Farmer’s Market — Find local art, produce and gourmet food at the weekly market! Rain or shine, the market is always busy.
Comedy — Tuesdays feature not one but two awesome – and free – stand up shows filled with top-notch comedic talent. The first hilarious showcase, Comedy Beast, happens weekly in The Den at Howlin’ Wolf at 8:30 p.m. Then later in the evening, beginning at 10:15 p.m., you can swing by the Comedy Catastrophe show at the Lost Love Lounge for more laughs (and authentic Vietnamese food).
Rebirth Brass Band at the Maple Leaf – They might have won a Grammy, but you can still find them every Tuesday night at the Maple Leaf.
Celebrate Hump Day every Wednesday with midweek music the best of happy hours.
Hit the Museum — New Orleans Museum of Art offers free admission to Louisiana residents on Wednesdays. Can you hold out until Thursday? If so, head to The Ogden Museum of Southern Art and get in free with your Louisiana ID.
Wednesdays at the Square — Jam out at the free Wednesday afternoon concerts in Lafayette Square throughout the spring season.
Happy Hour — Try Pint Night at the Bulldog, or check out the wine specials at Cellar Door in the Central Business District. Then head on over to the Candlelight Lounge in Treme for the renowned Treme Brass Band.
So close to the weekend, Thursdays and Fridays are practically synonymous in this city.
Thursday Concert Series — There are two seasonal concert series that we love to frequent on Thursdays: Jazz in the Park in the spring and fall, and Thursdays at Twilight from January through April. It’s the best way to soak up our beautiful weather while you jam out to local bands.
