It’s finally here! Peak Carnival time kicks off with Krewe du Vieux on Saturday night. Elsewhere in New Orleans, check out a market in the Bywater, catch a live performance at Marigny Opera House, and get your jerk chicken fix at Central City Barbecue. Even more picks are below.
1. The Art of Jazz — Dance meets jazz at this live performance happening Friday night at 6 p.m. at Marigny Opera House, a hauntingly beautiful space. There’s also a Sunday night showing. General admission tickets are $35; $25 for students and seniors.
3. Jerk Chicken Festival — Spice up your Saturday with the inaugural Jerk Chicken Festival (formerly Marley Gras) at Central City BBQ. You’ll get your food fix and honor the rasta —who would’ve turned 71 on Feb. 6 — to boot. Admission is $10
4. Piety Street Art Market — From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., more than 50 vendors offer handmade jewelry, crafts, vintage clothing, collectibles, and more near the “Rusty Rainbow” bridge in Crescent Park, just across the street from Pizza Delicious. Free.
5. AcroYoga at NOBL — New Orleans Boulder Lounge (NOBL) hosts this acrobatic yoga hybrid class from 12 to 2 p.m. on Sunday. No prerequisites for this class, and tickets are discounted for the price of two ($25 for one, $45 for two), so bring a date!
Mardi Gras Fashion Show at Republic — On Thursday night, see Mardi Gras through the eyes of its fashionable revelers. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the (fashion) show stars at 9 p.m.; tickets are $10.
