Cue the dad joke: this weekend is a slam dunk! With Mardi Gras and NBA All-Star fanfare happening concurrently, there’s a dizzying array of fun (and in Dave Chapelle’s case, funny) things to do.
1. Mardi Gras — This weekend’s parades include Cork and Barkus in the French Quarter plus Oshun, Cleopatra, Pontchartrain, Choctaw, and Freret Uptown. Not to mention ‘tit Rex and Chewbacchus in the Bywater… it’s a lot. Check out the full schedule here.
3. NBA Celebrity All-Star Game — Watch celebs like Nick Cannon, Ansel Elgort, and Mark Cuban at the Celebrity All-Star Game on Friday night at 6 p.m. CT. New Orleans residents past and present are on the court, too: Anthony Mackie, Win Butler, and Aaron Sanchez are all on the roster. Tickets online, or you can watch on ESPN.
4. NBA All-Star Saturday Night — Three-point contests, dunk contests, skills challenges: it’s all a part of the NBA All-Star Saturday night, melding basketball with pure entertainment starting at 7 p.m. CT. Tickets online, or watch on TNT.
5. NBA All-Star Game — Even if basketball isn’t your thing, you can enjoy a kickoff performance from the Roots and a halftime show from John Legend. But if basketball is your thing — there’s no better showcase of talent as the East takes on the West in this annual tradition. Tickets online, or watch on TNT at 7 p.m. CT.
Note: Don’t miss additional All-Star attractions like NBA Crossover — a free event at The Chicory featuring art, music, fashion, and entertainment — from 4-10 p.m. on Friday and 12-6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
“A Life of Seduction: Venice in the 1700s” at NOMA — The New Orleans Museum of Art spotlights Carnival, fashion, and street life scenes from 18th-century Venice at this new exhibit, which opens this weekend and runs through May 21.
