How to Find Fresh, Healthy Bites in New Orleans

Sometimes it seems like roast beef po-boys are on every corner in New Orleans (and yummy fried oyster, shrimp, AND crab claws… ) But sometimes your body just craves something light and delicious. So we thought we would take a look beyond the local corner store specialties to find a few spots that really deliver fresh and healthy flavor.

Sukho Thai is a great choice for Thai food in the Crescent City and until recently we had to travel to the Marigny to get it. Uptowners delight! Sukho Thai is now available in your neck of the woods at 4519 Magazine Street. You won’t be disappointed. Our recommendation? The shrimp satay, seafood clay pot, classic pad thai or their ever-changing weekly specials.

Another favorite of ours is The Green Goddess Once you’ve been you’ll know why. Tucked away at 307 Exchange Place in the French Quarter, capacity changes based on weather. On beautiful warm nights the restaurant falls into the alley way, while our first time in the winter months kept everyone inside. The menu changes too, with one savory dish looking better than the next. The chef is often walking around saying hi to everyone while the bartender is concocting one of his many specialties. Before the end of the meal, you’ll already be plotting your return.

One more for the road is Stein’s Market & Deli located in the Lower Garden District just up from the corner of Magazine and Jackson. You can get freshly made sandwiches, we like the Fernando or the Robért, or delicious and big salads, enough to take some home for later. Best of all is browsing their retail store of speciality and local items. We usually end up buying a bottle of organic wine to take home for dinner that night.
