Foo Fighters, the internationally famous band founded by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, will be playing Jazz Fest on Sunday, May 6. The band hails from Seattle and has been active within the music industry for the last 18 years. Originally intended as a solo project, Grohl chose the name based on the term coined to describe the UFOs and other similar reported phenomena that were seen by Allied forces pilots during WWII. Over the years, several different members joined and subsequently left the band; there are currently 5 members: Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Taylor Hawkins, and Chris Shiflett. Occasionally quiet and ethereal and other times loud and aggressive, the Foo Fighters’ sound is always melodic. They have a history of playing to sold-out music venues and consistently deliver an energetic performance. This Jazz Fest show comes on the heels of the 2011 release of their seventh studio album, Wasting Light, as well as a recent performance at the Grammy Awards. Having won 11 Grammy Awards over the lifetime of the band, including four Best Rock Album awards and three Hard Rock Performance awards, this is not an act you will want to miss.
