New Orleans Dogs: Don’t Leave Home Without ‘Em

This week’s New Orleans Instagram pick is of a dog sharing a public space with humans, a common occurrence in the dog-friendly city of New Orleans.

Our New Orleans Instagram pick this week is a tribute to man’s best friend. New Orleans is an amazing place to live and visit for humans, but it is also incredibly dog-friendly. New Orleans dogs love their city, too, and are welcome all over town. Store and office employees bring their dogs to work regularly, and they inevitably become business mascots. Even many of our biggest festivals incorporate dog events and dog parades. During Mardi Gras, dogs have the opportunity to join the fun and parade with the Mystic Krewe of Barkus, and one of this weekend’s top Bastille Day Fête events is a French Dog Costume Contest for French dogs or dogs dressed in classic French garb.

Almost every house on my block has at least one pooch, and I see them everywhere I go. In New Orleans we treat our pets like the esteemed besties that they are, and they have access to the best spas, like Belladoggie, a primo place to pamper the one you love, and New Orleans dog park City Bark is practically a country club for dogs. Dogs from out of town have their choice of upscale dog-friendly hotels like Hotel Monteleone, so a trip to the Big Easy can always include your four-legged friend.

Dogs and their owners alike enjoy experiencing dining and socializing outdoors, and bars and restaurants throughout New Orleans embrace dogs with open arms. Why enjoy the summer without your best buddy? Grab your dog and enjoy a local beer outdoors, like this cool pup who knows how to do it New Orleans style.
