GoNOLA Find: Femaissance

Femaissance is a month-long exhibition celebrating and elevating local female artists in New Orleans, created for women by women.

In the heart of the French Quarter, you can stroll along Royal Street any day and find inspiration everywhere. From live street music, to glimmering lights and antique shops, the atmosphere of creativity is impossible to ignore.

Nestled near the corner of Royal Street and St. Phillip Street, you’ll find Oleander on Royal. On its exterior, the shop blends with its vibrant environment. But enter the gallery between November 10 and December 10, and you’ll be transported to an exciting, new space made for and by women.

Femaissance celebrates the “Renaissance Women” of New Orleans and the power of female collaboration. New Orleans is home to countless groundbreaking women in history – Leah Chase & other pioneering female chefs, the women who stormed the Sazerac Bar, Nina Compton, Solange, and so many more.

Today, New Orleans continues to be a home base for women working together and breaking glass ceilings, and Femaissance celebrates that.

Tulane University graduates Madeline Rose and Halle Kaplan-Allen founded Femaissance, in collaboration with New Orleanian female artists The space welcomes and empowers all females, showcases New Orleans’ new generation of female talent, and hosts programming for women to participate in.

The beautifully curated exhibition will include various types of work. Painters, photographers, potters, and jewelry & apparel designers will all have work on display, and available for purchase. Participating artists include Shelby Stoor, Alexandra Kilburn, Robyn LeRoy-Evans, Abigail Berger, Maddie Stratton, Akasha Rabut, Lindsay Tomlinson, Sarrah Danziger, Lena Kolb, Emily Ferretti, Katie Barrosso, Flora Cabili, DeOrin Payne, and Erica Lipoff.
