GoNOLA Flickr Pick of the Week: Caroling in Jackson Square

One of the great New Orleans Christmas traditions is the annual caroling in Jackson Square by candlelight, a magical experience for all ages.

New Orleans is a city that takes great pride in tradition, and the holidays here are no different. Since 1946, carolers have gathered in Jackson Square for a moving and inspirational singing of Christmas carols by candlelight and the annual event will continue this year on December 16 at 7 p.m. Now, I understand singing is not everyone’s forte but that’s why lip-syncing was invented! And to make things even better, song sheets will be provided to make sure that you are mouthing the right words. Or if you’d like to still sing even though you can’t carry a tune in a bucket, we don’t judge. Oh, and if you are one of those few gifted with a beautiful voice, help us not-so-gifted out by singing a bit louder, would you? We appreciate it. See, now you have no excuse not to come! The gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and I suggest getting there around then so you have plenty of time to get a candle, song sheet and find someone to stand by who has good pipes.
