New Orleans School of Cooking: Mysteries Solved

At New Orleans School of Cooking, you can learn cherished secrets of classic New Orleans dishes with their daily demonstrations and hands on classes.

It seems an impossible, intangible feat for the culinary challenged among us to even attempt to make the supremely delicious food that comes out of New Orleans and Louisiana. But the New Orleans School of Cooking turns those distant dreams of cooking local delicacies like Oysters Rockefeller, Crawfish Etouffee and perfect pralines into reality. Every day, the New Orleans School of Cooking instructors dissect the secrets of treasured local recipes ingredient by ingredient and put them back together before your very eyes at their daily cooking demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with additional demonstrations from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday – Saturday. You can roll up your sleeves and try your hand at cooking them, too, at their hands-on classes every Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you’d rather not take the mystery out of it, you can bypass the classes and go straight to their store to bring home the indigenous New Orleans seasonings and ingredients. And voila! After a trip to the New Orleans School of Cooking, you can dazzle friends and family with your Creole culinary prowess.

Fleurty Girl: There’s no doubt when you come to New Orleans you’ll want to try the delicious food here like gumbo, bread pudding, oyster Rockefeller, to name a few. But, did you know you can also learn how to make that stuff as well? Yep, right here at the New Orleans School of Cooking.
What are we going to do here today?
A: Today we’re doing a hands-on class, where people actually come in, learn about Louisiana cuisine, but they cook it themselves. So, it’s a little bit of history, it’s visiting, and it’s also a meal. In class, we’ll get folks that can’t cook, folks that cook a lot. Also, chefs will come to class because it takes the mystery out of Louisiana cuisine. Besides the hands-on cooking classes, we also have the classes that are open to the public, where they sit and watch the demonstration. In the front, we have the store that teaches them about Louisiana products so they can take Louisiana back home with them.
Fleurty Girl: What a great New Orleans culinary experience, getting to prepare the food, getting to eat it, and then being able to shop for it, stuff you can’t find outside of New Orleans, like Joe’s Hot Stuff seasoning.
