It’s a woman’s world, so get away with the girls June 22-24, 2017, for fun and female empowerment at FestiGals, New Orleans’ only just-for-girls festival and fundraiser that’s all about women helping women. It’s a fabulous opportunity for networking, learning, or just enjoying the city with activities that range from personal and professional enrichment seminars to a high-heeled, costumed stroll down Bourbon Street.
This will mark FestiGals’ seventh year — in previous years, more than 2,200 women from all over the country have joined in. The festival has raised more than $130,000 for organizations that support causes affecting women, such as the American Heart Association, Dress for Success, Breastoration, and women’s and children’s shelters.
All About FestiGals
The JW Marriott hotel is the festival’s home base. After you register (available from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.) and enjoy a classic cocktail at the lobby lounge or a nearby restaurant, jump right into your customized schedule — if you opted for the Diva Package, that means you can attend an exclusive welcome reception at the Presbytere from 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Friday is the festival’s Women’s Leadership Conference, with a focus on personal and professional development. From an up-close glimpse of City Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell’s negotiation experience to the history of burlesque in New Orleans as told by current performers such as Trixie Minx, FestiGals attendees will hear empowering advice from incredible women from a range of backgrounds and interests.
It’s a full day, and you’ll have a lot to digest. What better way to do so than with a drink and some retail therapy with the girls?
Select vendors will present their wares right inside the hotel, which will also offer hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants with wine and cocktails as you browse. Ladies who opted for the FestiGals Ultimate Diva Package or choose to purchase entry to the culinary experience will be treated Friday night to a dinner demo at Sac-a-Lait.
After an empowering, thought-provoking, and inspiring first day, Saturday is all about celebrating you. Naturally, that’s done the New Orleans way by parading through the French Quarter. For Saturday’s Stiletto Stroll, the FestiGals are second-lining through the French Quarter in costumes, boas, and stilettos at least three inches high. (But if heels aren’t your thing, they are not required!) Festival participants will also be joined by local New Orleans marching krewes in costume. This year’s Grand Diva is singer Robin Barnes.
Before your French Quarter stroll, make sure you participate in the Bodacious Bras for a Cause brunch and live bra-art auction, where local artists have designed gorgeous brassieres to raise money for the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans and Breastoration.
FestiGals brings women the best of both worlds — silly and serious bonding and learning — to the best place in the world. Locals and out of towners alike should grab their girls and come down for a productive good time. And of course, don’t forget your favorite heels.
