Morton’s The Steakhouse: a French Quarter Bar Where Happy Hour Lasts Until the Wee Hours

Morton’s Power Hours are an inexpensive way to have a great night out in New Orleans.

Whenever my girls and I decide to have a Sex and the City night, and I’m reminded that I don’t have Carrie Bradshaw’s career or budget just yet, we’re heading over to Morton’s The Steakhouse for their happy hours.

Yes, hours.

Located on the edge of the French Quarter, at the foot of Canal Street in the One Canal Place building, Morton’s first “Power Hour” begins when most people get off of their day jobs and lasts until 6:30pm.  But for the rest of us who either don’t know when to leave work or take naps before we go out, this is where Morton’s adds its name to the list of places to go.  Especially for this baller on a budget.  The late night happy hour begins at 9:00pm, Sunday through Friday, and doesn’t end until the place closes.  The Power Hour drink menu includes popular beers, wines, and even cosmos–all for less than a ticket to see Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda at the movies.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, there’s the blue cheese steak fries, mini crab cake BLTs, petite filet mignon sandwiches, or mini cheeseburgers that Morton’s offers on its bar bites menu.  They’re the perfect compliments to your Power Hour “Mortini.”  I suggest sitting at the bar and chatting up the bartenders.  Not only are they friendly and laugh at all the random conversation that you will try to engage them in, they are more than willing to pour a little extra Jim Beam into your Manhattan.

So if your night out is based on Sex and the City or Entourage, Morton’s is the perfect spot to begin or end your excursion in New Orleans.
