COOLinary Restaurant Month Pick: Palace Cafe

August in New Orleans means an amazing array of food at great prices, as more than 50 restaurants around town celebrate COOLinary Restaurant Month. Now is a great time to treat yourself and dine out, as you can indulge in great meals at fine dining restaurants for reduced prices.

One participating restaurant that New Orleans locals love is Palace Cafe. Located at the edge of the French Quarter on Canal Street, in the old Werlein’s music store building, Palace Cafe offers classic New Orleans cuisine with a modern twist. During August, this Dickie Brennan owned restaurant is offering their own “Temperature Lunch” as well as a $34 prix fixe dinner menu daily.

The Temperature Lunch entree specials change daily, as do the prices, which are based on the previous day’s high temperature. (For example, if the previous day’s high was 86 degrees Farenheit, the lunch special for the day would be $8.60, exclusive of tax, gratuity and beverages.) Daily entree lunch specials are paired with your choice of soup of the day or a Werlein salad, Palace Cafe’s version of a Caesar salad, made with romaine lettuce with garlic-anchovy dressing, grated Pecorino Romano and homemade croutons. It’s a perfect excuse to take a long lunch break!

This year’s COOLinary dinner menu at Palace Cafe features a Crabmeat Cheesecake appetizer that is baked in a pecan crust with a wild mushroom sauté and Creole meunière sauce. The entree keeps the seafood theme going with an Andouille Crusted Fish that is pan-roasted and served with Crystal beurre blanc, chive aïoli, rissole potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Top it all off with a delicious white chocolate bread pudding.

Be sure to check out the full list of participating COOLinary restaurants, and take advantage of all of the great dining deals around town this month!
