New Orleans Coffee Culture Brews Creativity in a Cup

Most people familiar with New Orleans know it’s the place to go for chickory coffee and café au laits to enjoy with beignets from Café du Monde. While Seattle gets credit for their cutting edge American brews, we’ve created quite a scene ourselves in New Orleans for modern coffee techniques and flavors as well as boutique orleans podcast

In this episode of GoNOLA Radio, our hosts talk to two people on both sides of coffee production: roasting and retail. Max Rodin is a partner with Geoffrey Meeker who owns French Truck Coffee, a local coffee roasting company that delivers their unique fresh-roasted coffee beans in a bright yellow truck around town. Geoffrey and Max saw an opportunity to roast their own carefully crafted product for the coffee-loving community in New Orleans, and thus, French Truck was formed. Max joins us on this episode of GoNOLA Radio to tell their story.

Benji Lee, owner of HiVolt Coffee also joins us to share what it’s like to open up a new coffee shop in New Orleans and what sets it apart from the already established ones. HiVolt is the hip new coffee kid on the block, located in the Lower Garden District in a building that was vacant for many years. Benji opened up HiVolt with his wife Laura who makes all the food, which includes plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options. In addition to their great food selection, HiVolt’s professionally trained baristas serve Counter Culture coffee and offers interesting options like the Oji drip Japanese iced coffee.

Our hosts and guests also share what other new coffee shops in New Orleans they frequent, like Pagoda Cafe, Spitfire Coffee, Solo Espresso and Cherry Coffee. Explore the new age of coffee culture in New Orleans in this GoNOLA Radio podcast episode and look forward to your next cup of joe in New Orleans!
