There’s no way you could explore all of New Orleans in a day (although Buzzfeed did a pretty good job). But when you narrow it down to a single neighborhood, you’ve got a good chance of enjoying yourself, eating like royalty, and learning a thing or two about the city’s multi-century history. We’re serving up several itineraries by neighborhood to help you put together a fun, seamless Tuesday to-do list. First up? The French Quarter. Follow along as we explore this historic neighborhood.
To put the itinerary in action, we sent one of our favorite Instagrammers, David Mora (@DavidNOLA), to try it out for himself. Scroll down to see his #HappyTuesdayTakeover and follow @VisitNewOrleans on Instagram for even more takeovers.
French Quarter Weekday Itinerary
Start with Beignets

You just gotta. Get to Cafe du Monde early and on a weekday for the shortest lines — and the freshest beignets — possible. The famed restaurant’s cafe au laits are a must-order as well. Try one iced for a subtle contrast between the warm, crisp beignets and cool, creamy, milk-laced coffee.
Head to French Market

Walk off the beignets with a leisurely stroll through French Market. Make sure to take a peek at the entrance’s “outfit.” During Mardi Gras, the façade dons a mask; during summer, it’s dressed like a juicy, Creole tomato. The French Market is open daily, year-round (rain or shine) and is chock full of everything from beautiful local art and fun trinkets to local delicacies. Don’t be surprised if hours lapse as you wander this open-air market.
Drink Up at the Carousel Bar

While you could stop in just about anywhere in the French Quarter for a drink, the Carousel Bar inside Hotel Monteleone is a great choice. It’s a short walk from French Market, and features sumptuous interiors and all the conveniences of a hotel lobby (read: clean, free bathrooms). Hop on for a sip and a spin — the bar literally rotates as you drink — and order from their small bites menu for a bit of sustenance.
Admire the View on Royal Street

Now, see why we sent you to Hotel Monteleone? Situated on Royal Street, the hotel has one of the best views of the French Quarter. Soak them in!
Relax at Court of Two Sisters

This French Quarter staple beckons with a special #HappyTuesday deal (it’s technically available Sundays through Thursdays!). Patrons can enjoy a half-price cocktail from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. — it’s an ideal way to unwind with the rest of the evening ahead to do whatever you want. Or maybe just relax in your hotel room.
