Always Open

New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation (NOTMC) and members of the New Orleans community gathered together during Mardi Gras 2017 to create a tourism video letting potential visitors know that New Orleans welcomes everyone.

Conceived by NOTMC’s advertising agency of record, 360i, and directed by Trent Jaklitsch of Gravy Films, the spot illustrates New Orleans’ world-renowned hospitality and welcoming spirit through the lens of a street parade – one that begins to move in reverse, with participants removing costumes and makeup, receding into doorways and out of sight. The brass band leading the parade disbands except for one lone bass drummer who steadily keeps a beat.

Spectators look on from the sidewalk, concerned, unsure of what’s happening. Suddenly the bass drummer picks up the tempo, adding a cymbal to the beat, and the parade comes back stronger and more jubilant than ever. Some marchers carry a banner that reads “we’re never going back”, symbolizing that New Orleans will always move forward, and always be open and welcoming to everyone.

Watch the video here:

Hundreds of volunteers joined 360i and Gravy Films to donate their time for this project, making it possible for NOTMC to present to potential visitors just in time for Mardi Gras and fresh on the heels of hosting the NBA All-Star game – another event made possible because of New Orleans’ open, welcoming environment.
