Rhinos and zebras and wildebeests, oh my! On Oct. 2, grab your rainbow gear, and get down to the Audubon Zoo for its third annual Gay Day at the Zoo celebration. This all-ages event will go from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is perfect for families, couples, friends, and allies.
Audubon Zoo is an exotic wonderland located at 6500 Magazine St. in Uptown and is home to roughly 2,000 animals from all over the world. In addition to providing habitats for these creatures, the zoo offers daily animal presentations, a carousel, splash park, ropes course, swamp train, gift shop, several different cafes, and much more.
Last year’s Gay Day at the Zoo drew more than 300 people, and organizers hope to attract even more attendees this year. Admission is $19.95 for adults and $14.95 for seniors and children ages 2-12. Don’t miss this fun and educational way to support the zoo and show your pride.
Once you’re there, gather at the gate, grab daiquiris, and follow the brick road through all the exotic wilderness Audubon Nature Institute has created. Lunch on the lawn with friends (and a group picture to follow) sums up a great day full of fellowship.
Family fun doesn’t stop at the zoo, though. Check out these other family-friendly events happening in October:
