New Orleans is known for late night drinks but there’s a lot more to the city than Bourbon Street. If you like beer, I mean good beer, then don’t miss a drink at one of these three uptown establishments.
If you’re a true beer connoisseur, don’t miss the Bulldog Bar on Magazine Street, which was listed as one of the Top 100 Beer Bars in the US by Beer Travelers. While you’re there, try one of the 50 beers on tap or one of the 100 different brands available by the bottle. Bulldog features a variety of beer ranging from Budweiser to Delirium Tremens and everything in between. In town during the week? Head to the Bulldog on Wednesday for Pint Night, buy a pint and keep the glass!
Cooter Brown’s is another hot-spot if you consider yourself a beer lover or a sports nut. In 2009 Gambit named Cooter’s the #1 Sports Bar and the #2 Best Beer Selections in NOLA. One thing that sets this bar apart from your average sports bar, are the caricatures of famous folks that border the very top of the walls. So, grab a beer (or a pitcher with your friends), a couple dozen oysters and try to figure out who is who.
Avenue Pub is the place to go for American Craft Beer. They feature regional brews from Abita, NOLA Brewing, Heiner Brau and Covington and Lazy Magnolia as well as national brews from Rogue, Stone and Harpoon among others. If you have the time, grab a burger from J’anitas at the Ave. Hours vary, but J’anitas opens at 11:00 am everyday.
