If you’re in New Orleans and you want to see a movie, there are other options besides staying in with streaming video or going out to an overpriced multiplex. The city has several independent movie theaters where you can see local and independent films that you might not get to see outside of a film festival, or anywhere else. One of the newer ones is Indywood, a self-described “hole-in-the-wall” arthouse theater located on Elysian Fields Avenue in the Marigny neighborhood that offers a unique slate of film screenings and special events, including the popular monthly Karatefight comedy show and a “film school” educational series. In our latest video in the AskNOLA series, we interview the siblings behind Indywood, Hayley and Will Sampson, about bringing a classic cinema experience to the Netflix generation.
