This week’s Instagram Pick of the Week is of a face familiar around the world. Recently, you may have noticed prayer flags popping up around New Orleans. You have the Dalai Lama NOLA Outreach Team to thank for the added color to the city. They have been distributing the flags, as well as organizing special events like talks, films, and yoga classes to raise awareness about the Dalai Lama’s upcoming visit to New Orleans. Invited by the Tulane School of Social Work through Dean Ron Marks, May 16 – 18 will mark the Dalai Lama’s very first visit to the Crescent City. The theme of the weekend is “Resilience: Strength Through Compassion and Connection.” You couldn’t pick a more fitting theme for NOLA folks. The Dalai Lama has been quoted as saying “Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.” We are honored that this year, he has chosen to check New Orleans off his list, and to bring his words and inspiration to our community. As far as resilience, strength, and connection are concerned, he’ll be able to offer great insight, and we have the opportunity to show him what our city already knows about all that. Hats off to @historicalfigures for the collage of His Holiness himself, including a recent photo from his trip to Maryland.
