It’s no secret that I’m getting to an age in which more of my festival friends have kids than don’t. It’s sometimes a toss up in deciding whether or not to bring the little ones out to brave the sun, crowds and music. Will they make it? Will they have some epic meltdown? What if we need to find a restroom ASAP?

It can be daunting, but for the majority of my friends who couldn’t imagine Jazz Fest without the kids (my boyfriend’s parents brought him from infancy and now he’s performing on the biggest stage!), I’ve made this go-to checklist for the little ones. They really don’t need that much – the music, beautiful weather and snoballs alone should keep the tyke’s satiated the whole day through.
Kids’ New Orleans Festival Checklist

1. Water (available at the fairgrounds)
2. Earmuffs
3. Lawn chairs with umbrellas
4. Sunscreen
5. Sandals
6. Beach towel
7. Snoballs
8. A baby wrap
Jazz Fest is a great time of year in New Orleans and can (and should!) be enjoyed by all. Sometimes I feel like the kids are having the most fun of all! When they get to a point where a nap is necessary, it’s useful to have a beach blanket and/or chair with umbrella (available at Rouse’s or other sporting goods stores) to perch them up for a rest. Jazz Fest is also a great time to introduce your little one to lots of different flavors. The food vendors are a plenty and it’s a wonderful way to explore tastes. If it’s air conditioning or just a more mellow-vibe you’re after, the Lagniappe stage is located INSIDE the stands and it’s a great stage to catch amazing talent as well as seriously cool off.
