City Park is an urban oasis that both locals and visitors can enjoy year-round. Go for a picnic near Big Lake, a round of golf out on the course, or experience the newest hidden gem within the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park.
The Historical Musical Train Tour, brought to you by Friends of City Park, is a one-hour train ride through the park complete with a trio of live actors, hand puppets, and original music. As we celebrate the Tricentennial year, we also celebrate the places that make New Orleans so special.
Both children and adults will enjoy this leisurely ride that tells the story of the park’s early history, including its founding and development. Local actors in costume perform an original score by Paul Soniat, Director of the Botanical Garden at City Park, featuring notable New Orleans musicians, including Michael Girardot of The Revivalists and Sam Craft of Sweet Crude. During the tour, you’ll be led through two miles of the park, making some stops along the way to learn about the oak trees, the species within the park, and other interesting facts about the park.
The Historical Musical Train Tour opened in May and will continue into the fall of 2018 through November. The tours run Friday through Sunday and depart at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4 p.m. Tickets are $20. Guests should arrive at the Visitor Center/Oscar J. Tolmas Center on 5 Victory Dr. in City Park at least 15 minutes prior to departure time. Seating is general admission and is on a first come, first serve basis. The tour is wheelchair accessible. Next time you’re in City Park, hop aboard the train and enjoy the ride.
