The holidays are in full swing, and it might seem like there’s no time for yourself. Adding wellness into the mix will help you find balance amidst all of the holiday hustle. In December, workouts run the gamut, from holiday themed races to peaceful meditation sessions. Pencil in one (or all) of these into your schedule, and in true New Orleans style, you’ll make a few health-loving friends along the way.

1. Celebration in the Oaks Run/Walk

Enjoy a scenic holiday run through City Park ending with red beans, hot chocolate, and beer. The kid-friendly two-mile course is perfect for a quick dash or a leisurely walk, and your race bib gets you admission into the park’s Botanical Gardens, adorned with twinkling lights for the holidays. City Park also hosts yoga classes beneath towering oaks strung with dazzling lights on Wednesday evenings, so if stretching is more your style, get the details here.

2. Morning Workouts at FitLot

What’s a FitLot? It’s a free, outdoor gym brilliantly engineered so people of all ages can workout. FitLot is hosting free workouts every Wednesday morning at 7:45 a.m. with the guidance of a coach. Situated in the middle of the Lafitte Greenway, a sprawling stretch of lush greenery, FitLot classes help increase strength and stamina, regardless of your fitness ability. When I swung by for a class, I worked out alongside a 28 year-old and 70 year-old, and everyone left challenged and invigorated (and I was sore the next day!).

3. Meditation at The Space

Meander down Magazine Street to this gorgeous, sun-filled wellness center for a weekend reset. Located upstairs from Raw Republic juice bar, The Space features a tranquil seating area and various rooms offering holistic services such as acupuncture and energy healing. Each Sunday, enjoy themed meditation from noon to 12:30 p.m. in the Quartz Room.

4. Tribe Yard Yoga, with an optional 5K run

This weekly workout features a delightful mixture of energetic yoga, a 5K run, gregarious locals, and goblets of beer. It all takes place at The Tchoup Yard, an eclectic outdoor beer garden outfitted with wooden tables and glowing lights. Swing by at 5:30 p.m. for a 5k run through the Lower Garden District, or stop in for yoga at 6:30 p.m. Finish off your evening with a frothy beer and animated conversation with fellow yogis. Rainy or chilly weather? Not a problem since classes takes place inside.
