GoNOLA Guide to Health & Fitness Classes in New Orleans in November

If you lead a healthy lifestyle and think you can’t enjoy New Orleans, think again. We’re kicking off a new monthly roundup on filled with health-inspired events, workshops and classes that gives you access to the healthy side of the Crescent City. From running one of the oldest road races in the country, to practicing yoga in a French Quarter living room, check out all the healthy events New Orleans has to offer in November.

1. Dirty South Yoga Fest

Enjoy a weekend filled with dozens of yoga classes and wellness sessions presented by New Orleans yoga teachers from all around the city. Kicking off on Saturday, November 3 with a yoga class and party at Republic NOLA, the festival runs through Sunday, November 5 at the Ace Hotel. Hop from vigorous vinyasa classes to yin yoga, and then the after party, which in true New Orleans style, is a Saints Game Watch Party.

2. Annual NOAC Turkey Day Race 

Did you know this five-mile run is one of the oldest races in the country? For 111 years runners have laced up their sneakers and dashed through the New Orleans streets before giving thanks. Check out the race’s incredible  history. Some perks of running the race include a scenic course through City Park, free beer at the finish line, and a good cause – the race benefits Spina Bifida of Greater New Orleans.

When: Thursday, November 22, 8:30am

3. Happy Hour Yoga at the Starlight

Dubbed “your French Quarter Living room,” the intimate Starlight will transport you to a different universe. Each Thursday enjoy yoga in the cozy upstairs event space, and afterward mingle at the bar with a complimentary juice cocktail included with your ticket. With Venezuelan bites in the back and live music in the front, The Starlight has everything you need to unwind and enjoy an evening in the French Quarter.

When: Thursday November 1, 8, 15 & 29; 6-7p.m. yoga, 7-8p.m, happy hour

4. November Project New Orleans  

This international free fitness movement is hosting a dawn workout every single morning from Monday, November, 5th – Friday, November 9th. Locations vary, from Crescent Park to Champions Square. Check out the full schedule here. Throw on your shoes and #justshowup, all workouts will be a surprise with one guarantee – you’ll get your body moving and heart pounding.

5. Goat Yoga in the Garden

Yes, you read that right. Goat Yoga. Come by Paradigm Gardens each Monday in November and enjoy an hour yoga class led by NOLA Tribe Yoga while goats frolick amongst the mats. Surrounded by blooming flowers and ripe vegetables, this yoga class may just be one of the most unique experiences you’ll have in New Orleans.

When: Monday November 5th, 12th & 19th, 6-7p.m.

6. Free Fall Wellness Series at Duncan Plaza

The wide, grassy field outside Duncan Plaza is home to a ton of wellness events throughout November. Find peace during thirty-minute meditation sessions each Tuesday and Thursday at 12:15pm, and limber up with yoga each Wednesday at 5:30pm courtesy of Move Ya Brass. After yoga class, enjoy Eat Fit NOLA approved cocktails and bites at the Pythian market. All classes are free and will help you keep your calm amongst the busy day.

Yoga Wednesdays in November, 5:30-6:30p.m.

7. Annual Thanksgiving Benefit Yoga Class

Swing by Swan River Yoga Mid City Mandir for an all-levels class on Thanksgiving Day. Featuring a crew of yoga teachers and live music, the class will benefit Restore The Mississippi River Delta. Advanced registration is recommended.

When: Thursday, November 22nd, 9:00-10:15 a.m..
