Sporting, New Orleans Style on Bayou St. John

Bayou St. John offers a beautiful waterway in New Orleans where you can have fun doing water sports like paddleboarding and kayaking!

In New Orleans, the sports scene is a little different than what you’d see other places. We do sports a little differently down here, well because, we do pretty much everything a little differently. After a night on the town living it up, we head down to the bayou – yes we have a bayou running through the city – to sweat out the previous night’s intake, without too much exertion. NOLA Paddleboards and Bayou Kayaks provide the vessels for us to carve through Bayou St. John in Mid-City at as leisurely or strenuous of a pace as we fancy. NOLA Paddleboards offer individual and small group lessons that take place on weekdays at 10:15 a.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 9 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. They are located on Bayou St. John where Wisner Boulevard crosses Filmore Avenue. Looking for an unusual birthday celebration? NOLA Paddleboards also offers large group rentals of up to 15 participants. Bayou Kayaks offers the sit-down approach with two hour single or tandem kayak rentals on Friday – Monday from 9 – 11 a.m., 12 – 2 p.m., 3 – 5 p.m. or 5 – 7 p.m. They are located on Bayou St. John at 1101 Florida Avenue.

Video Transcript:

Fleurty Girl: You might not think of water sports when you think of a visit
to New Orleans, but there’s a bayou that runs straight through the city
with plenty of water sports activities that you, the family and your pet
can partake in.

Jeff: Bayou St. John is a great place. It’s just very centralized in the
New Orleans’ area so no matter where you’re coming from you can get here generally within ten minutes. I strongly recommend paddle boarding. What we
do is we provide lessons and rentals and we also sell the boards. You can
come out here and just do a nice calm paddle or get a good workout.

Fleurty Girl: So tell me about this experience being on Bayou St. John.
What kind of things do you get to see?

A: Well, you’ll get a glimpse of how the locals live on one end of the
bayou and then when you paddle to the other end toward the lake, it gets
really picturesque. Lots of nature and gets really quiet as well.

Fleurty Girl: So tell me about how this works.

A: You book online. You pay online. And you’re on your way.

Fleurty Girl: So much fun right here on the water and it’s easy for you to
get more information online so that you can have this experience for
yourself. I’m Fleurty Girl and that wraps up another edition of GoNOLA TV
and I’ll see you on the water, darlin’.
