In a city filled with costume parties and events year-round, a knowledge of sewing is never a bad thing. But what if you never learned or have the basic skills but want to step up your game?
Located on Oak Street in the Riverbend neighborhood, this week’s GoNOLA Find is Sew Fabulous, a local studio dedicated to preserving and educating lovers of sewing and crafting. Established in 2012, this former shotgun house has classes, workshops and private lessons in sewing, knitting and stitching available for all ages and skill level. You can begin with their Sew Easy classes, which include beginner basics, hemming, and fundamentals. Looking for a more project based experience? They offer classes on how to construct fun items such as a tote bag, circle skirt, purse and more.
Sew Fabulous also hosts special events. Most recently they hosted a holiday gift sewing workshop and are known to hold fabric and craft swaps for those wanting to purge or share their supplies. This creative environment is also ideal for groups or birthday parties for kids.
In addition to being a learning center for those with a passion to make, Sew Fabulous also offers week-long summer camps for kids ages 9 and up. This hands-on program is designed to teach all aspects of sewing, concluding with a fashion show at the end of the week.
So whether you have always wanted to learn how to sew, make your own patterns, design, or simply hem up your pants and sew on a button, Sew Fabulous is aiming to introduce a new generation to the world of sewing.
