It’s a fun weekend to celebrate the holidays here in New Orleans. With Celebration in the Oaks and Christmas New Orleans Style already underway, this weekend brings even more events to add to your holiday bucket list. First, we have LUNA Fête, bringing some of the best lighting displays you’ll see this season to downtown New Orleans. Be sure to catch a free holiday concert at the Saenger with the Marine Corps New Orleans’ Santa Meets Sousa Concert. Also on Saturday is Running of the Santas where a sea of Santas will take the streets of downtown New Orleans. Get some holiday shopping done while benefitting a great cause with Café Reconcile’s Global Market Collective. Lastly, don’t forget to check out the Faulkner Society’s Words and Music Festival with literary stars, happening all weekend long.

Words & Music Festival – Words & Music Fest is a five-day celebration of literature that kicks off on Wednesday, December 6. During the festival, you can expect readings, seminars, workshops, and a chance to meet authors and fellow book-lovers. We recommend checking out Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Olen Butler’s Literature & Lunch session on Friday, December 8 where he will perform a selection from his collection of short stories, A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain, and his new novel, Perfume River. See schedule and ticketing information here.

LUNA Fête – Let there be lights! Public art, lights, and technology collide as LUNA Fête illuminates downtown New Orleans. The show opens on Wednesday, December 6 and runs through Saturday, December 9 between Lafayette Square and Fulton Street. While you’re in the area, check out Miracle on Fulton Street and the LUNA Fête Fallen Star, an interactive lights installation. This is one you won’t want to miss.

Café Reconcile’s Global Market Collective – Add some flavor to your holiday shopping and check out Cafe Reconcile’s Global Market Collective. This Friday and Saturday, it will be transformed into a holiday marketplace featuring goods from 25 local artists and vendors from the Global Market Collective. The market is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, with 10% of all market proceeds benefitting Café Reconcile.

Running of the Santas – Grab your Santa hats –  it’s time to go running. That’s right, Running of the Santas is back, and they’ve come to party. The run starts at Manning’s at 3 p.m. where you can enjoy drink specials before heading to the racecourse. But don’t worry, the “run” is really more like a stroll to Generations Hall for live music and a costume contest. General admission tickets are at $15 and can be purchased here.
